Eloquent as always and sure to appeal to us GOMs. Very slightly off your theme of language being hijacked the one that gets me going is "finding ways to help you save money" or similar. Yes, by spending it. Even in a supermarket, where you are shopping out of necessity rather than gluttony, they are trying to entice you to spend more.
There's no one on the checkout (and in some stores I mean no one) saying "are you really sure you need two boxes of cereals (those who know me will understand that this is self deprecating irony), you would really save money by buying only one.
So don't get me going on the sofa selling stores looking to save you hundreds of pounds. The one you are sitting on is just fine.
