Coachaiku #3: Listen…

22 Jan 2012 by

I spent the past couple of weeks as a member of Faculty, delivering a Leadership Development program.

A theme that kept arising was the cultural bias that many organizations exhibit towards introverts.Even the brightest and the best can sometimes feel frozen out.

It reminded me of some sage advice I heard many years ago: Just because an introvert doesn’t say anything, it doesn’t mean that they have nothing to say. Or to put it another way…

Coachaiku: 17-syllable ideas, in a 5-7-5 form,  for personal and professional reflection.

Nice one!  Much more elegant and thoughtful than cliches like ‘Action not words’ or ‘walk the talk’!

Short and sweet. But i think this suggests that quiet minds trump silver tongues. However dont we need both: thoughts need to be communicated

I like the format. Keep Spinning Gold.

Very nice. Very thought provoking. I’ll be quiet now.

It’s part of the GE Leadership model.  Engaging the best ideas from your entire team gives you the best chance to make a good decision.  More than that, it builds followership.

So true! Reminds me of a team development session early in my career when introverts were given the floor to comment on what it feels like for them to work with extroverts………Ouch, they didn’t hold back!
